I've had my eyes on Dayton for a while as a possible place to live. The metro area is about a million people, which is a good size of a city to me--large enough to have amenities, but small enough to not have the traffic of, say, Chicago. And it's closer to my mom, between three and four hours away. It has lots of parks, and cultural activities, such as opera.

Well, the University of Dayton is looking for a cataloger. They're looking for a "early career" person, which might mean a low salary, but the only way to find out is to apply. They say that salary depends on experience. It is a Catholic institution, but it says that "Inclusiveness of all peoples, cultures and religions is what defines the core of our Marianist tradition." They aren't kidding either; one of the library staff members is wearing a hijab in her photo. And I like the diversity of the library staff. It's a large research institution, which would be a big change from what I'm doing. The timing isn't great, but opportunities come along when they come along.

I don't have much time (the deadline is May 10th), so I'll work on my resume and application materials. And I need to plan an overnight trip to Dayton to check the place out.

At the very least, it'll give me more incentive to get rid of stuff.
