I hate bureaucrats revisited

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRGH.

I called the periodontist and endodontist to make an appointment. Apparently the periodonist works only on Tuesday through Thursday (hmm, maybe I should go to dental school), but I made an appointment with the endodontist for the root canal. I called the insurance company to find out how much the copayment will be, and they said that my coverage ended as of 3/31. I called the company administering my COBRA plan, and they said that I was covered as of 4/1, but that the "feed" might not have gotten to the insurance company. They said that it takes three to four weeks for them to get notified. I told her that I had an appointment, and she suggested that I pay for the root canal and then submit the bill for reimbursement. I don't know exactly how much a root canal costs, but I'm sure that it's not cheap. No way. So she said that I'd have to wait for the info to go through the system. I canceled the appointment. Meanwhile I'm anxious to get the work done quickly in case I get the job. And besides, I have a sore tooth.

Also, I'm wondering if Kaiser will present me with a bill for the prescriptions that I've filled this month. One drug costs close to $500 and another about $150.

Why, in this age of electronics, does it take four weeks for the health plan administrator to communicate with the insurance carrier?!?
