Slowly Getting Better

I'm feeling better today, although I still have a bit of a headache. And it's sunny and warm out. The cats are being manic.

The headache got worse, so I lay down for a while. I'll make up the time tonight.

I was in a Python class today. It's review for me, but I was also able to compare Python to things in Java. I'm accumulating a body of knowledge!

Ugh. My headache is coming back again, but I really need to get cat food and Zara's meds (done). Now I'm back online to make up the time for my nap (done). My headache went away.

I spent some time reading about Anthony Bourdain because Mom said that CNN was going to show a movie about him. I liked Parts Unknown.

I'm wondering if COVID cases have gone down enough to start going to the gym again. I'd like access to some of their machines. I need a leg press machine to help my wobbly knees. And I love rowing machines. And do they have a step climber?

The forecasters are predicting snow AGAIN on Thursday. Do I need to change my vet appointment yet again?

I might wind up in Rantoul instead of Champaign due to rental costs, so I've started looking into amenities there. There's a vet who sounds good. There's also a 24-hour gym, but I'd rather use the one in Champaign, which has a pool, ice rink, climbing wall, and gym machines. It's not cheap, but I can get a payroll deduction.

I'm going to get to bed early to help keep my headache at bay.

comments

It took me forever to install Python on my netbook, but I finally got it installed. Feeling hammered this morning.

Got myself together with the help of coffee and packed. I'm glad that I made a packing list.

My Internet access keeps dropping. I think that I need to call Comcast about it when I get back.

The girls conked out at the normal time that I'd go to work. They're probably wondering why I was still rattling around.

Made it to Chicago an hour earlier than I had expected. I had planned on getting stuck in stop-and-go traffic, but I didn't get stuck. The Airbnb host didn't seem to mind. He's disappointed that I don't want to use the hot tub though :)

I was listening to the book Unfu*k Yourself on part of the trip up. It made me realize how often I tell myself that I can't do things. Even on this trip, I assumed that I would get lost. But I didn't.

I studied Python for hours, so I feel prepared for the class. (I almost said "...so I won't make a fool of myself." Yes, my self-talk needs work. )

The laptop wasn't picking up the WiFi, so I'll post this later.

I didn't sleep well; I kept on waking up. At the time that I planned to get up, the Airbnb guy across the hall, with whom I'm sharing a bathroom, went into the bathroom for a shower and a shave. I got into the bathroom an hour later than I had planned. Broke speed records showering and putting on makeup. Made it to the class with 5 minutes to spare.

Good class so far, except not being able to install GitHub Desktop on my netbook. My studying paid off; I was able to answer a bunch of questions posed by the instructor.

comments

The results of my aunt's scan are back, and the cancer hasn't spread. That's good news.

Had problems getting up, but I got up in time for my teleconference call. I keep worrying that Harlee will start complaining during the call--and she is LOUD--but she slept in this morning.

We had a lockdown drill at work. I was fretting because one of the doors wasn't locked, but otherwise, it was pretty boring.

Starting to review Python for my class next week.

Tired. I think that I'm going to bed early.

Forgot to mention that It's been freaking cold--in the 30s F, and not the high 30s. WTF?
Went to sleep around 11 PM and woke up at 9 AM. I feel a lot better now.

It's a good thing that I feel better because the front desk worker was out sick today. (My boss: "I'm glad to see you!") So I worked the front desk much of the afternoon and all of the evening.

The Python class in Chicago next month has an opening for me. I'm eyeing Airbnb places to keep costs down, and I'm probably going to drive up. I forgot that this is a two-day class (well, a day and a half). I'm planning to cram my review of Python because I haven't touched it for a while. I also want to get back to learning it. The person teaching the class also is involved with a Python user group in Champaign-Urbana. Their open house is on Saturdays, so I could go.

I'm feeling really gung-ho on programming right now. And I like how things are shaping up.

Kind of a longish day though. I'm tired.

comments
