Down to the River

I am so exhausted. I'm going to wait for my laundry to finish and then go to sleep. I am so tired that I put the money in the dryer, turned it on, and started to walk away--without transferring the clothes to the dryer. I'm glad that I realized it fairly quickly because that would have been an unpleasant surprise.

In other exciting news, when I came home, I found a note from someone in the Illinois Dept. of Corrections asking for their electronic monitoring equipment back. No, I'm not making this up. I suppose that I should call them and explain that the person for which they're looking doesn't live here, lest they show up looking for their equipment in person.

I've been listening to Fleetwood Mac and Bruce Springsteen because their music is less emotionally loaded...or so I thought. This morning, I cued up Springsteen's song "The River" because I remembered that it was a good song...and completely lost it on the way to work. I think that he's underrated as a songwriter (although most of his songs don't have quite the emotional impact of that one). It's a very bleak world in his songs, but he does bleak quite well. (I beat a hasty retreat to U2, although the first few songs of The Joshua Tree aren't exactly a barrel of laughs either. But they aren't wrenching.)

Did I mention that I'm tired? I can't sleep too terribly late on Saturday because I need to pick up Harlee's prescription food and prescription meds and then drop some donations off at a cat shelter. Sunday, I'm definitely sleeping in.
