Down to the River

I am so exhausted. I'm going to wait for my laundry to finish and then go to sleep. I am so tired that I put the money in the dryer, turned it on, and started to walk away--without transferring the clothes to the dryer. I'm glad that I realized it fairly quickly because that would have been an unpleasant surprise.

In other exciting news, when I came home, I found a note from someone in the Illinois Dept. of Corrections asking for their electronic monitoring equipment back. No, I'm not making this up. I suppose that I should call them and explain that the person for which they're looking doesn't live here, lest they show up looking for their equipment in person.

I've been listening to Fleetwood Mac and Bruce Springsteen because their music is less emotionally loaded...or so I thought. This morning, I cued up Springsteen's song "The River" because I remembered that it was a good song...and completely lost it on the way to work. I think that he's underrated as a songwriter (although most of his songs don't have quite the emotional impact of that one). It's a very bleak world in his songs, but he does bleak quite well. (I beat a hasty retreat to U2, although the first few songs of The Joshua Tree aren't exactly a barrel of laughs either. But they aren't wrenching.)

Did I mention that I'm tired? I can't sleep too terribly late on Saturday because I need to pick up Harlee's prescription food and prescription meds and then drop some donations off at a cat shelter. Sunday, I'm definitely sleeping in.

I prescribe some fun music and comedy films for this phase of your life. When I need a pick-me-up, I generally turn to music outta Nawlins. ;) Zydeco and Cajun, but anything that's got that beat and fun sound. The brass bands, too-- Rebirth Brass Band, for one. Great for feeling good.

Hope things improve.

I like Buckwheat Zydeco. They played in San Jose sometime when I was there. That's a good idea.

I don't know what your computer sitch is-- if you have decent speakers, or tend to listen to music while relaxing, I suggest a Pandora mix. At Pandora dot com, I put it something like "New Orleans Music" or "Cajun" and all manner of fun stuff comes up. Oh, I think that "channel" I created is called "Louisiana", actually!

Also, if you like them (I love them) The Black Keys are upbeat and fun. I made a Black Keys channel on Pandora, too, and the mix of other groups and singers is toe-tappin'.

I mostly listen to music when I'm driving. I have a 45-minute commute one-way, which I actually like because it gives me a chance to listen to music or think. It's an easy drive with little traffic. Maybe I'll listen to Pandora to get some idea of who to listen to, and then buy CDs.

Oh, by the way, I like your icon :)

I went to bed two hours ago but still can't sleep. Just shoot me.

Zara is climbing all over me and rubbing against the phone (although, to be fair, she left me alone when I was lying still). I'm surprised that Harlee isn't up complaining to me. Zar just used me as a launch pad to get to the window. Gee, thanks, Zara.

I couldn't sleep last night, either. I was blaming myself, because I had some pie and coffee pretty late in the evening (sugar, caffeine) but we have lots of rain and stormy weather this morning and that generally keeps me up, so now, I'm blaming the weather.

Zola often gets very active when storms come through. She didn't last night. "Launchpad" is part of the gig, innit? ;) hee hee

Actually, "launchpad" is better than "landing pad". She deliberately aims her jump down from the window to land on me. Last night, she landed on my stomach. Ouch.

The Illinois Dept. of Corrections people were looking for someone on Candlewood Drive, and I live on Candlelight Drive. "Oh, are they different streets?" "Well...yes." Mystery solved.

bwa haha! Er, no, they are the same street. wtf? People be dumb.
