The year in review

This was a year of minutia. I closed out some long-pending items and explored some old interests.

Personal: Finally got divorced. Finished painting the garage. Started dieting (lost 20 pounds) and walking on a treadmill three times a week. Went to Disneyland, Raleigh-Durham, Portland, and Detroit (might be the highest number of trips that I've taken in a year). Dealt with an eBay ripoff and forged mail headers. Got a home equity loan and bought a car. Bought guitars and a keyboard. Alternated between thrift (buying clothes at Goodwill and joining Talk America) and buying stuff like guitars -;) Took lessons in guitar, the Alexander Technique, Pilates, and swimming. Refinanced. Ended the year with swimming and doing weight training three times a week, and started working towards running.

Cats: Random had a hematoma, ear infection, and lost a lot of fur. Harlee, not to be left out, had ear mites, and the door fell off of her carrier once. Nima stayed well. I got all three microchipped and got health insurance for them.

Friends and family: Mom retired. My Chicago friend graduated with dual Masters' degrees. I went to Erik's 4th of July party. Mom came to San Jose for Thanksgiving, and I went to Detroit for Christmas.

World: The space shuttle exploded. The war in Iraq started.

The upshot of my resolutions:

  1. Finish painting the garage. (Indeed I did.)
  2. Clean up the living room: haul boxes down to the garage, dump magazines, etc. (Nope, it's still a nightmare.)
  3. Exercise three times a week. (For the most part, I have. I started walking on a treadmill, and now I do Pilates and swim, and am starting to run.)
  4. Lose around 25 pounds.(Lost 20, but gained some of it back over the last month.)
  5. Volunteer at least a couple hours a week. (The first place at which I signed up kept on losing my information, so I didn't volunteer anywhere. I did participate in the toy drive at Christmas.)
  6. Go through the rest of the place and get rid of stuff that I wouldn't want to move. (Still stuck on item #2.)
  7. Finish getting rid of stuff in the garage.(Still stuck on item #2.)
  8. See every new movie that interests me (and is in the immediate area), even if all hell is breaking loose at work. (Not even close -;))
  9. Visit Portland and Raleigh-Durham. (Yep, sure did.)
  10. Spend more time with the cats. (Not really.)

Item #2 is going on the top of the list for next year.

Last year is the first year in a long time that I made resolutions. I used to follow your approach -;) I think that I'll try a new list for next year.

Well, you'll probably succeed, since you've obviously done a lot better with yours than I did with mine ;)
