Dumpster Diving

Wired magazine has an article about dumpster diving, which was pretty interesting. The guy that they profiled does it part-time, and makes thousands of dollars off of it. I copied the article. (Yes, I paid for it.) When I got home, I noticed that someone had thrown out a very nice lamp and an upholstered chair. So I brought them in. Both had been snowed on, and I don't know how well the lamp will tolerate that, but I'll let it get good and dry and see. I first thought that I'd need to sell the chair, but my mom wanted me to put a storage hassock in the hall of my townhouse that she could use to put on her socks and shoes (she has problems because of her hip), but I'll use the chair for the time being. Now I want to check out the dumpsters behind the local apartment buildings...but I won't. At least not right now :)

I knew two different people on LJ who did this for years-- might still, but they're not on LJ anymore. Personally, I've done small things-- I live next to a Subway and I sometimes catch a guy trashing tomatoes or some odd thing that would just go to waste if I didn't take them.

Have you seen the movie, Dive? Worth a look. It used to be on Netflix.

I haven't seen the movie Dive. I'll put it on my list.

The chair is looking good. It just needs a few scratches on the arms covered.
