Odds and ends, bits and bytes

Late start. Stayed up very late reading LJs. Bah. I think that unemployment is reinforcing my normal night owl tendencies.

Anyway, the monitor is hosed. (Better than the computer itself.) I have a bid in for a refurbished monitor on uBid.

The only problem is that my resume and related stuff are stuck on the other machine. I could try to re-create my resume from Dice.com or BrassRing (one has a version that includes the formatting). However, I think that I'm going to try to use the infamous monitor that I dropped (currently connected to a UNIX machine that isn't working correctly either). Hopefully I won't drop it again; it weighs 70 pounds.

Oracle has openings listed on their web site, including one for which I'm very well qualified. I'm debating whether to send them my resume because of 1) the long commute, and 2) their documentation is frequently bad (see # 3), and 3) they have a rep for running their people ragged. On the other hand, I need a job, and they'd be likely to hire me because I've worked for a direct competitor and have tons of database experience. I suppose that I could send them my resume and, if they interview me, bring up some of my concerns.

I'm the same way if I'm not on some form of a schedule. I'd prefer to stay up reading until 3 am, and sleep in til noon.

Good luck with the job hunt :)

Go for it, Adrienne. You can always so "no" to their offer. You can always quit after a week and never put it on Your resume.
Go for it. Stretch out.
