Odds and ends, bits and bytes

Late start. Stayed up very late reading LJs. Bah. I think that unemployment is reinforcing my normal night owl tendencies.

Anyway, the monitor is hosed. (Better than the computer itself.) I have a bid in for a refurbished monitor on uBid.

The only problem is that my resume and related stuff are stuck on the other machine. I could try to re-create my resume from Dice.com or BrassRing (one has a version that includes the formatting). However, I think that I'm going to try to use the infamous monitor that I dropped (currently connected to a UNIX machine that isn't working correctly either). Hopefully I won't drop it again; it weighs 70 pounds.

Oracle has openings listed on their web site, including one for which I'm very well qualified. I'm debating whether to send them my resume because of 1) the long commute, and 2) their documentation is frequently bad (see # 3), and 3) they have a rep for running their people ragged. On the other hand, I need a job, and they'd be likely to hire me because I've worked for a direct competitor and have tons of database experience. I suppose that I could send them my resume and, if they interview me, bring up some of my concerns.

I'm the same way if I'm not on some form of a schedule. I'd prefer to stay up reading until 3 am, and sleep in til noon.

Good luck with the job hunt :)

Sleeping 3 AM to noon is roughly what I've been doing. I'm in for a rude awakening when I find a job-;)

Thanks!

Go for it, Adrienne. You can always so "no" to their offer. You can always quit after a week and never put it on Your resume.
Go for it. Stretch out.

That's exactly what I was thinking...

[identity profile] pageeater.livejournal.com 2001-12-16 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
That's because great minds think alike.
:#254;

[identity profile] pageeater.livejournal.com 2001-12-16 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it worked from the laptop. What can I say?

[identity profile] pageeater.livejournal.com 2001-12-16 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, obviously great minds don't have the same hand/eye coordination.

Let's see. & <----yes, the & key works. But when I hit it from this keyboard after pressing the alt key...it is all over the board. sometimes yes, sometimes no.
Lets try a couple again...if You will bear with me.
(sorry Adrienne)

Now that last one? I hit the & key twice after the alt press.
Let's see.

Aha - just looks at preview. That's it, Bandi. For some reason this brand new super duper keyboard won't "read" the first key hit after the alt press. I have to hit the & twice. Watch.
þ
See?
Good night now. I'm going to bed two jobs behind schedule. Bah.

DON'T PRESS "ALT"!! Just enter the characters ;)

[identity profile] pageeater.livejournal.com 2001-12-16 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Are You serious? What was all this the other night about pressing the alt key?
Okay...with no alt.
þ

Well geez. No wonder Sammy was so hysterical.
Color me disgusted.
I've just got one more thing to say.
:-þ

LOL! Using the "Alt" key is for another method of getting characters. We won't go into that.

Aren't you supposed to be in bed? Nighty night ;)

[identity profile] days-unfolding.livejournal.com 2001-12-16 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Good night to you both <grin>

Night, Adrienne ;)

I'll probably send them my resume and see what happens....I might also try a run at the commute to see how bad it really is (South San Jose to Redwood Shores).

[identity profile] pageeater.livejournal.com 2001-12-16 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Careful sweetie...why look for problems before they are in front of You? Send out the resume. If they call You, go for the interview. Then if that goes well and You think You might want to give it a try, work for a few days and try living with it. Commute always takes time to get used to. But with Bart...or buses...You might be able to turn the time into extra reading time.

I guess what I'm asking You to at least think about...is don't put the horse before the cart? Just let this happen...live it...experience it...and if it ends up a big "no" - well, at least You will always know You gave it Your best shot.

And while You're at it...why don't You come and visit me sometime? Yeah, You'd have to put up with my Pollyanna-ness, but I would work very hard to keep it in check. *smile*

[identity profile] days-unfolding.livejournal.com 2001-12-16 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, I'd love to visit you sometime! Just have to figure out when would work for the both of us....

[identity profile] pageeater.livejournal.com 2001-12-17 07:11 am (UTC)(link)
That's always the trick, isn't it...
When You're ready to look at that, write to me and we'll figure something out.
