Presentation?

The American Library Association is having a call for proposals for the annual library conference next year, to which I'm determined to go because it's going to be in San Francisco. I had the idea to give a talk on how to use Excel and R to compute statistics for library research. The only thing is that I don't know all the details of how to use Excel and R yet. (I have done some work with Excel, but I'm trying to learn R.) Is it wrong to propose a topic that I'm not expert in yet? I have a year to prepare....

I think that if you can learn it in that time frame there is nothing wrong with proposing it.
