Cutting it close is good enough
Apr. 2nd, 2005 01:52 amI went to the John Williams concert tonight. Terry, if you're reading this, I was up near your neck of the woods, at Villa Montalvo.
I allowed extra time to get lost, and sure enough, I got lost. When I finally found the place, and was driving the winding road up to the venue, I missed a hairpin turn in the dark and climbed a curb onto the grass. (Ouch. My poor car.) After I parked, I ran up the hill from the parking lot to the theater. I was frazzled and winded when I arrived. I was one of the last people that they seated before John Williams came out.
After I calmed down, I really enjoyed the music. John Williams is a very unpretentious kind of guy who gave the impression of playing for a few friends in his living room. The theater is very small, which adds to the effect. (I'll post more details in my music journal.)
During the second half of the show, I got drowsy, but managed to stay awake.
I scored a free can of Diet Coke after the show (after turning into a blushing teenager asking if I could have the whole can of soda) and waited for a while to avoid the traffic jam. John Williams was going to sign CDs later, but I didn't want to spend money, so I left. I was able to follow someone out who knew what they were doing, so I left with no further mishaps.
