Counting my blessings

The carrier into which I tricked Harlee was the new double-door carrier. I was a little worried that the top door wouldn't hold as I carried her out, but it did.
We arrived at the parking lot near the store that was having the vaccine clinic. The parking lot was busy, with a lot of cars. It's at the intersection of two busy streets.
I unloaded Harlee from the car and put her down on the ground. I locked the car, and then I picked her up.
The front door of the carrier fell off.
I grabbed the door and held it in the doorway of the carrier just as Harlee made a lunge for freedom. I never would have thought that my reflexes could be faster than hers. Never underestimate the power of a terrified mom, I guess.
Apparently the top had become loose. I worked the door back into its hinges (although the latch was now on the inside) and tightened the top up. It seemed tight enough, so I decided to still get Harlee microchipped as long as we were there. However, I held the carrier in my arms from the bottom. I don't think that I can ever trust that carrier again.
Everything went well after that. She's microchipped; we're home; we've calmed down. I'm paying a lot of extra attention to my precious girl.
I think that work will provide a nice break from the weekend.
