Amazing Grace
Mar. 5th, 2007 03:25 amI saw Amazing Grace tonight. It's about William Wilberforce, who led the drive to abolish the slave trade in Britain.
It's a nice period drama, and I looked into the historical details when I got home, so the film accomplished its task. It had an interesting discussion about contemplative faith versus faith put into action, but it didn't go very deep. It reminded me that only a few people can change the tide of public opinion. However, it's hard to get emotionally involved because you know from the start that Wilberforce is going to be successful. (Otherwise, they wouldn't be making a movie about him....) It's worth seeing, but don't expect to be blown away by it.
