Detroit Institute for Arts
Nov. 8th, 2008 12:55 amMom and I went to DIA (Detroit Institute for Arts) today. It obviously has some wealthy donors; the place was full of marble. There were flowers on the tables in the cafeteria, and workers bus your trays for you.
Mom and I first loaded up at the cafeteria. And I do mean "loaded up"; we kept on seeing food that looked good, so we wound up with loaded trays. (Next time, I think that we should look through the entire cafeteria first and make choices.)
Unfortunately, the photography exhibit that I wanted to see was closed. We spent some time in the Asian art area, which I enjoyed. Then we went through random rooms; there were paintings by Van Gogh, Monet, Degas, etc. They weren't famous pictures, but still, it surprised me that there were pictures from well-known artists.
I'd like to go back when the photography exhibit is open.
We were close to what I hope will be my future alma mater, Wayne State University. However, we weren't sure exactly where it was, so we didn't go over there.
I'm not sure if I mentioned that I got my permanent driver's license. Yay. Library, here I come.
