My mom and I saw Milk last night (the movie about openly gay San Francisco Supervisor Harvey Milk, who was murdered in 1978). It was very, very well done. It was well acted; I forgot that I was watching Sean Penn. The movie was historically accurate to the best of my recollection; I've read Randy Shilts' book about Harvey Milk, The Mayor of Castro Street.

The movie had an interesting theme in which it had music or scenes from the opera Tosca, a very depressing opera in which all the main characters die in the end. The movie showed Milk listening to one famous aria in which a character who was about to be executed sings that he never loved his life so much that when he was about to lose it. Later, the movie showed a couple of scenes from Tosca. It sounds a bit much writing about the theme, but in the context of the movie, it worked. And I patted myself on the back for recognizing Tosca.

My only criticism of the movie is why did it take so long to be made??

My mom and I also saw Rachel Getting Married last week. It's a movie about a young woman getting out of rehab to attend her sister's wedding. It was also well acted, but I wasn't sure what I was supposed to get out of it.

There's too many good movies out -;)
