I'm back....
Oct. 2nd, 2011 06:59 pmLet's see if I can post once a week. It sounds doable.
The other Library Assistant at my job left, so I've been covering her hours as well as my hours. That means that I'm working six days a week for 36 hours. The extra hours during the week haven't been too hard, but I need to work until 10 PM on Friday and be back at work on Saturday at 7:45 AM. That's hard. I was pretty spaced out at work on Saturday. It was great to wake up this morning and know that I don't have to go anywhere.
However, I have several job openings for full-time career work that I need to respond to. Also, there is an opening for another part-time library job. If I got it, and if I worked 20 hours a week at my current job after we hire someone, I would be working full time. However, that wouldn't give me much time to respond to job ads and work on my other projects. I also received an opening for some volunteer work that would improve my credentials. I need to decide what I want to do. I might just apply for both positions and let the chips fall where they may. I also saw an opening a couple of weeks ago for an online contract position in which I would review search results, and that would have flexible hours. I've been waiting until we hire someone at my current job to look into it.
I've been carrying around flash cards to work on my French. I hope that it will help. I'm also working on grammar. I haven't had much time to work on Rosetta Stone though given my long hours. I also have a plan for my online portfolio work. All I need to do is the actual work -;)
I forgot to mention last time that my mom is having a pond built in the back yard. At this point, the pond is built and has some water in it, and the landscapers are working on the waterfall. I've been taking pictures of it periodically as it's being built, and will post the pictures when they're done. The down side is that it's taking forever. The landscapers generally take longer than they estimate. (They are the same people who built the labyrinth last year.) It has been raining a lot, which has also slowed things down. And there is mud everywhere; partially because of the rain, but also because they have built piles of dirt and sand in the driveway. I now have one pair of shoes that I wear when I walk through the yard, and I carry my good shoes and change them when I get to work. It's kind of a pain in the butt. I also am postponing some errands (for example, Harlee needs to go to the vet) until they finish. But the pond will be nice when it's finished.
