I keep running out of time....
Nov. 12th, 2011 03:23 amI started my new internship. I'm learning a lot, but it's keeping me really busy. (My work plus internship is 42 hours one week and 33 hours the other week.) I'm going to have to work 40 hours to cover for my boss one (or two?) weeks in December, so I need to figure out how I can do that and work on my internship.
I'm also going to go to Washington DC in early December to go to a professional conference. I found a cheap airfare, so I will have time to spend two days sightseeing in DC. I'm looking forward to it. I need to book the flight, hotel, etc. this weekend. (I'll also need to figure out what to do about the internship that week too.) Unfortunately graduation is the same weekend, so I'm going to miss it.
I started a professional blog and am using Twitter to make connections. Twitter is fun, but it's an enormous time sink. I was thrilled that a couple of my tweets were "retweeted," one of which was retweeted by the American Library Association's jobs list. Heart palpitations! I also have spent time updating my LinkedIn profile and linking it to Twitter and my professional blog.
So I'm gainfully semi-employed.
I've been playing with Pandora radio while I work on my internship. It's the "radio" station that learns your taste in music. It isn't quite there yet. It keeps suggesting New Agey instrumental music because I like Loreena McKennitt. At least I understand that, even if I don't want to listen to it, but then it offered Lynyrd Skynyrd?? Some people's tastes are more eclectic than mine. We'll see how it shapes up over time.
Today is my 49th birthday. I'm sure that there is something profound to say about it, but I'm too tired to think of anything. The number has no meaning anymore. Internally, I think that I stopped at 40. I planned to look at smartphones today (as a late graduation present), but I had planned to do research on them tonight, but I need to crash soon. We're also planning to do out for dinner and see a movie if the movie that I want to see (The Way) is playing here.
This entry kind of reads like I think that life's a drag right now. I don't think it is. I"m just tired....
