Progress is being made
Oct. 5th, 2012 05:56 pmThe movers picked up my stuff on Wednesday. Originally, the driver told me that he might be delivering my stuff in Springfield on Friday, which would mean that I'd drive through the evening because I had an appointment with my psychiatrist in the Detroit area Thursday afternoon. He said that he'd call Wednesday or Thursday morning. He didn't. I left a message with the move coordinator. She didn't call back. I finally reached her, and she said that delivery was now scheduled for Tuesday. Okay, but why didn't she call me? I had left her a message asking to call me a few hours earlier. This isn't the first time that they haven't returned phone calls, and I'm getting a little annoyed. They're nice in person and do good work though.
My psychiatrist agreed to fill my prescription early so that would buy me some time to find a doctor in Springfield. However, she asked me if my health benefits started on the first day of work. I assumed so, and didn't remember seeing anything that said that it didn't, but I wrote HR to doublecheck the day that it starts. The head of HR was off for a couple of days, but I assume that she'll get back to me.
It's good though that I've had some time to unwind and get some things done. I've changed my address everywhere that I can think of, including the New York Times. I'm leery of submitting a Change of Address form, though, because I'm afraid that they'll forward my mom's mail along with mine. I've arranged for Comcast to get turned on at the apartment. I'm planning to do as much homework as possible before I leave.
The upshot is that I'm going to drive down to Springfield on Sunday, pick up the keys to the apartment on Monday, meet the movers on Tuesday, have Comcast turned on on Wednesday, drive to Detroit on Thursday, and drive back down on Friday taking the cats with me. My mom will also be driving down with my plants and some other stuff. I start work the following Monday....
