Sugar Tree
May. 16th, 2013 08:43 pmI'm currently at a regional library conference in Kentucky, and they had live music tonight. The conference coordinator said that we should hear music from Appalachia (not bluegrass) because Appalachia is not far away. (We're in Richmond.)
The group consisted of three young women who went to Berea College together, which is in the Cumberland Plateau. They played fiddle, banjo, guitar, and cello, and also sang in harmony. They're terrific musicians. The group is called Sugar Tree. To my untutored ear, what they played is what I would call bluegrass. And I liked it.
bandicoot, you listen to bluegrass, right? Any bands that you recommend?
