Quiet

I finally did fall asleep around 4 PMish and woke up at 4 AM. It's strange to see the Chicago streets so deserted.

On the train, I was reminding myself that I was really looking forward to this trip, and I don't want to let anyone or anything screw it up. How often do you get a chance to be a tourist in your home town?

I have time to have a great breakfast before my preconference session.

And I get a chance to see my friend Anne and see Brittney, who used to work with us.

It's great being a librarian because people actually like you. On the shuttle over to the conference, the "trip coordinator" was saying how much she liked librarians. And when I was in the hospital last December, I told a nurse that I was a librarian, and she said, "OH! I love librarians!" It's a lot more fun than being, say, a lawyer -;)

And librarians are helpful. I dropped a bunch of papers all over the floor and someone passing by (whom I did not know) stopped and helped me pick them up.

I also had a great couple of conversations with a librarian from Rutgers who manages their institutional repository. I never remember to exchange business cards with people, but I could figure out who she was from the class roster.

I also really like Chicagoans. They're great and very nice in a big-city sort of way. Not warm and fuzzy, but still looking out for you.

Oh, and I talked to the vet about Harlee. She wants to run more tests, but things aren't as dire as they sounded in the phone message. Big sigh of relief....
