Life is a Messy Business
Sep. 27th, 2013 10:01 pmI had planned to have the walkthrough of my apartment this morning. However, last night, we drove over to my storage unit to drop off some stuff, and discovered that the key wouldn't turn in the padlock on my storage unit. That put the kibosh on finishing last night, although we probably wouldn't have finished anyway. So I planned to call a locksmith this morning, and grabbed a copy of the lease for the unit to prove that I wasn't trying to break into someone else's unit.
It was really late by that point, but my missing clothing was turning into a crisis; that is, I had no clean clothes. So I went shopping at Meijer's at midnight and found a few items. I was exhausted and having problems concentrating and remembering things; it took me several false starts to get to Meijer's, and then I had to go back to Meijer's to buy a new lock, and after I left, I remembered that I hadn't paid my COBRA bill that was due on the 1st, and therefore I needed to stop back at the apartment so that I could to bring it to Jacksonville today. I got to sleep really late.
I overslept about a half-hour, but finally pried myself out of bed at 7:30 AM. I couldn't find my copy of the lease, so I needed to go back to the apartment. I found the lease in the car, but decided to go back to the apartment anyway to grab some breakfast. I called the apartment office to reschedule the walkthough for Monday, and the apartment managers were very nice about it even though I would be staying over the end date for my lease for a day. Breakfast took longer than I had planned (I keep moving more and more slowly), and I realized that if I called a locksmith, they might not finish in time for me to leave for my dental appointment, so I stayed in the apartment and printed stuff off for school, and planned to call the locksmith on Saturday.
I stopped at the storage unit on the way to Jacksonville, and after a lot of fiddling with the lock, I got it to work. It's a very finicky lock though. I think that the problems last night were the universe's attempt to get me to get more sleep -;)
I got my final dental work done (alleluia!), and it ended an hour early, which wasn't good because I had dinner plans and needed to hang around, but I found a shaded, breezy parking spot, and took a nap for around 20 minutes. Then I went to Arby's and did some homework. Went to campus and dropped off my payment.
Then I stopped at the library, and enjoyed talking to my former colleagues, which I didn't get much chance to do on my last day because of the interview of the job candidate.
Then I went out to dinner with one of the college's professors and with a colleague, and had a blast. The professor is a great "cheerleader" for people and is very encouraging--she thought that the job in Florida sounded "perfect" for me--which raised my spirits a lot. After dinner, we took a walk around the square in Jacksonville. Downtown Jacksonville has a strange mix of funky, interesting shops and creepy looking buildings.
I held it together during dinner, but started to get really tired again on the drive back. However, I logged on when I got back, and discovered that Circle e-mailed me asking to set up a phone interview. That would be an absolutely terrific opportunity for me. It would be a little weird to live in Chicago again, but I have friends there. That news gave me my second wind, which is how I got the energy to type this entry. However, I plan to go crash and sleep in tomorrow.
