Advancing in Another Direction
Oct. 23rd, 2013 10:47 pmI've been feeling under the weather for the past couple of days, but it hasn't stopped me from doing anything until now. I overslept for an hour and a half this morning, and therefore left Springfield on the lateish side (2 PM local time).
By the time that I got on I-57 (near Champaign-Urbana), I was desperately craving a nap. The Serendipity Gods were smiling on me because 5 minutes after I thought that, there was a rest stop. I tried to take a nap, but I don't nap well in the car. I dozed a little. I spent the better part of an hour there, but I did feel better for a while.
By the time that I got to the place where I usually get gas in Kankakee, my stomach was really upset. Food helped, but I was craving to go to sleep again. At that point, it was already 7:30 PM local time. I called my mom and told her that I wasn't going to make it the full way to Detroit tonight, and I planned to stop in Michigan City (which is, oddly, just over the border into Indiana from Michigan) or Kalamazoo. I said that I did want to get through the Chicago-Indiana I-80 and I-94 mess before I stopped for the night.
And a mess it was. There was construction with four lanes of traffic merging into one lane. I'm surprised that I'm not still there. It did wake me up though.
Because I was feeling fairly awake, I debated driving past Michigan City, but decided to play it safe. So I'm now in a nice hotel in Michigan City. I'm planning to go to sleep now, but just realized that my cell phone charger is in the car....
