Look for Me under the Bed
Dec. 16th, 2013 09:03 pmThe good news is that the first day at my new job went well. (I'm already contributing to decisions about circulation policies that we're setting for our new online catalog.) I'm going to be off for two weeks for winter break after working this week. (Can I pick a time to start or what?)
The bad news: when I got into the car tonight, the instrument panel lights of my rental car were not working while the headlights were on. (They worked when I turned the headlights off.) I drove a nerve-racking two miles or so to WalMart in Lincoln, ran in and picked up a couple of things, and went back to the car to study the car's instruction manual to see if there was something that I might have accidentally changed when I drove in this morning. I zeroed in on the brightness setting for the instrument panel. I turned the car on to play with the setting--and the instrument panel came on even when the lights were on. My theory is that I left the lights on this morning and I left the cell phone charger plugged in, and the car didn't have enough juice left to power both the headlights and the instrument panel.
Then when I was leaving Lincoln, I ran into fog. A lot of fog. I decided to take it slow and let everyone pass me, so I settled in the right lane behind a truck, which gave me warning of when the road twisted and turned. It was even more foggy when I got to Bloomington, but at least here I have an idea of where I'm going.
By the time that I got home, I felt the way Zara looked when she was hiding under the bed in the hotel in Indiana. I'm planning to do just what I have to do and crash.
