Ice, Ice Baby
Dec. 21st, 2013 11:20 pmMy first week of work is over. The people are really nice, and the library director is more laid-back than my previous boss is. (People don't come much less laid-back than my previous boss.) The library is in the middle of setting up a new software system. The first day that I arrived, the library director basically handed it off to me, and I've been finishing up the configuration. It's been fun and a little nerve wracking because there is a tight, fixed schedule. We're supposed to go live shortly after we get back from Winter Break, and the first couple of weeks promises to be crazy busy with finishing the configuration and training people on the new system. Nothing like starting a new job with a bang!
And now I'm off for two weeks on Winter Break. My mom drove down to Bloomington yesterday. I'm really glad that she didn't drive down today because when I woke up this morning, everything outside was covered in a layer of ice. Then it started to rain on top of the ice. (I told my mom not to go outside for any reason for fear that she might slip and fall and break something. It's no joke either; one of my neighbors went outside and promptly fell.) I think that the ice might be melting a little, but it's supposed to be cold for the next few days (very cold Monday and Tuesday), so I wonder what the roads will be like on Monday. I need to drive up to Chicago on Monday to get the rest of my stuff out of the Civic and give them the paperwork for it. I also need to return the rental car that my insurance company was paying for and rent a new car. The insurance company is giving me almost $6000 for the Civic, so that should help a lot in car shopping.
We're busy unpacking. My mom was as charmed by my new place as I was, and as the rooms are taking shape, it's looking really nice. (I'll take pictures when the rooms are closer to being "done".)
I have a question. I want to put some cheap shelves in the basement to hold extra toilet paper, extra soda, etc. What would you do for cheap shelving? The ones in Meijer and WalMart are in the $40 to $50 range. I saw some on Amazon.com that are $30 with free shipping, but I'd like to spend less if I could. Would bricks-and-boards shelves really be that much cheaper?
