Last night, I had a discussion with two of the part-timers about the predicted snow tomorrow (today), but I checked Weather.com and it said "snow showers". That didn't sound bad, so I left everything where it was and left. I ran a few errands in Lincoln, but before I got onto the highway, a little voice in my head said that it would be a good idea to e-mail some of the files that I'm working on to myself just in case I got snowed in. So I drove back to the library and got the files.

This morning, I was pulling myself together to go to the Normal campus and pick up my barcodes, when snow started coming down in buckets. It was coming down so fast that brushing snow off of the car was pointless because by the time that you cleared the other side of the car, the side that you brushed off first was full of snow again.

I e-mailed the Library Director and told him that I was still going to the Normal campus, but I was going to wait until the snow stopped before driving down to Lincoln. I made it to the Normal campus and back at a crawl; the drive took twice as long as it normally would. Then I started working on my files and barcodes. (I'm assigning barcodes to patrons at the Normal campus and creating a file of patron information that the library system can import.) I also drank a lot of hot tea. (One of the part-timers told me about a tea shop in Champaign. I'll have to check it out sometime.)

Before I left, I also distinguished myself by slipping and falling backward on some ice near the townhouse, and hitting my head on the ground. (Luckily, the snow cushioned my fall.) My glasses flew off and landed in a snowbank, but luckily didn't sink too far in the snow. I was in a panic trying to find them for a little while though.

After lunch, the snow let up some, but the Illinois winter road conditions map said that I-55 to Lincoln was "100 percent full of snow," and we had gotten four inches of snow, so I e-mailed the Library Director and told him that I was going to stay in Bloomington.

They're predicting "snow showers" tomorrow too. Hmmm....I'm trying to make it until Sunday to get groceries. We'll see how that goes....

The map is of the highway road conditions as of 5 PM. The spot in Central Illinois where the five roads intersect is Bloomington-Normal (or BloNo, as someone who lives here once called it). Red lines mean blocked roads. Chicago lucked out and didn't get hit by this storm.
