I Now Can Speak a Little Polish!
Jun. 10th, 2014 11:36 pmI had been having problems learning Polish using busuu.com and Rosetta Stone. I also bought some Pimsleur CDs to play in the car. I now proudly can say that I speak four sentences of Polish. And while I'm sure that my accent isn't perfect, I bet that someone who speaks Polish could understand me. Pimsleur wins! My only complaint is that they don't include a transcript in Polish. OTOH, it would be a good exercise to study the pronunciation of each letter, guess how each word that I learned is spelled, and look the words up in a dictionary.
I was reviewing the sentences that I learned, and found myself coming up with the French equivalents of the sentences. It wasn't by translating to English and then French either, just trying to retrieve the Polish and coming up with French. So I seem to be learning each sentence as a unit. (Or maybe my mind is saying that if I want to work with a foreign language, French is much easier than Polish!) My Pimsleur Lithuanian CDs just arrived, so I can further confuse myself.
