Hell Week

The students at the college for which I work are moving in next week, and I'm assuming that classes start the following Monday, although they haven't updated the academic calendar yet. The other librarian and I have a big presentation to faculty a week from tomorrow, and I need to prepare roughly 45 minutes of material. I've prepared around 15 minutes worth thus far. To prepare, I need to visit two libraries in the area (this presentation is to faculty on our Normal campus, which doesn't have a library), read a book about copyright, and develop the presentations.

I also have taken on the responsibility for creating new displays for the display cases in the lobby of the library. (The previous display in the one that I'm working on had information about a college-sponsored trip--in 2005. I kid you not. I thought that it was time for it to go.) The one that I'm working on right now has to do with travel. I've got some travel and foreign language books as well as some books about art collections at the Louvre, British Museum, the Vatican, a museum in Germany, and one in Japan. I'm going to create a poster of maps of various cities and pictures of various places. The tag line will be "Travel the world...at your library." I found out that the college-sponsored trip next year will be to Paris, Provence, Barcelona, and Madrid (oh, I wish that I could go!), so I'm going to make images of those areas prominent, and say "watch this space for information about a trip to [those places] next year," and offer the display case to the faculty member sponsoring the trip to display information about the trip later this semester.

We also have another empty display case, and I thought that I'd make it about "the college experience," with books about studying and writing, but also about music and theater. I probably will also include some candid shots from the college yearbooks. I'd like to have them both done by the end of next week, but we'll see if I can pull it off.

I also need to put books on reserve next week. The catalog entries that I'm fixing from the inventory will have to go on the back burner.

So next week is "hell week" for me. I can't complain though--I normally don't work overtime. And I'm enjoying what I'm doing. The Younique folks are going to be disappointed though because I'll attend our conference call and practice with the makeup, but I won't be able to do anything else on Younique next week. I would have waited until after the beginning of the semester to join but there was a sale on the Presenter's Kit and also my sponsor really needed money at the time. But there's only so much of me to go around....

I've decided to join a gym that has branches in both Normal and Lincoln with inter-location privileges, but I don't know if I'll have time to join next week.

Harlee pooped on the bath mat again. Sigh. Harlee, what are you trying to tell me? I can't take her to the vet for a couple of weeks because of my "hell week" activities. (Well, if it was an emergency, I'd find time to take her, but this isn't an emergency.) I'm going to 1) scrub the litter boxes really well this weekend, 2) buy a litter box for the bathroom, 3) move Harlee's food downstairs, so she won't need to come upstairs, and 4) really try to remember to put the bath mat over the edge of the tub. I hope that helps.
