Deadline Fever
Jan. 31st, 2016 01:29 pmI'm working from home today on a grant proposal. It's for a group that supports research in librarianship, and if they accept it, they would fly me to LA for a seminar in June, and then mentor me through a research project. I have a draft, but the literature review needs beefing up, and I need to write the cover letter, abstract, and summary. So I'm going to work from home on it, and then run into work for a final proofread and submit it. Unfortunately, my neighbors have been yelling and thumping around. Sigh.
I'm going to adopt Mimi (one of the cats at the shelter). I'd like the small dog that I posted, but I don't know how Zara would deal with a dog her size. Not well, I suspect. Another cat would at least "speak cat". Mimi is young, so I'd be more inclined to let Zara and her work it out. (It would be great if they played together. I think Zara could use a companion with whom to run around the house.) And I don't know how long Harlee is going to live (she's my longest-lived cat thus far), and I feel about Mimi kind of like how I feel about Harlee. When Harlee goes, I'll still be devastated, but having Mimi would soften the blow. The first step is to contact the apartment management to get permission, and buy a gate to block off the back door to the kitchen, and give Zara the run of the house. Then I'll fill out an application, but I might ask if I could have an extra week to get things organized around here.
Speaking of cats, I opened the door to go outside the other day, and one of my neighbors' cats tried to walk right in! I was able to block him, and I said, "What do you think you're doing?!?" He meowed by my back door for quite a while. Cute, friendly cat though.
