Do What You Love?
Feb. 20th, 2016 12:40 amI keep coming back to my love of music. I'm thrilled that I'm going to learn how to catalog music scores at work. I'd love to be a music librarian, but that would require a second bachelor's degree in music, which I could actually do at the University of Illinois (where I earned my undergrad degree). However, you could legitimately argue that it's not a great use of time and money, and that I'm too old to do that. I hate the idea that I'm too old to do anything.
I still love music though. So I'm going to take music history and theory classes at community colleges in the area. (I'm also planning to take world history this summer to give me a context for music history.) I also signed up for free online classes on classical music and opera. I'm also planning to work on Italian and German from home. I'd like to take classes in them, and there are German classes around, but to take Italian classes, I'd have to go to the U of I or take online classes from Oregon State University, which would be expensive. I'm just going to muddle through with classes that I can take at community colleges now, and see where this goes. I also found a music teacher in Springfield who teaches both voice and piano, but I need to get the boxes out from the front of the digital piano first.
And my time management sucks. I could be doing much more than I have been. I skimmed a book that we bought at work about how to be a good student, and it suggested scheduling everything that you have to do, and keep notes about how well you followed the schedule. Another book by the same author talked about the enormous time suck of social media (ahem), and suggested scheduling time for social media, but keep it off at all other times. I'm going to work with this and see how this goes.
Now I'm off to work on my languages....Oh, and Mimi's doing well. Zara was throwing a fit, but seems to have calmed down somewhat about Mimi. Zara's boycotting her dry food though. She'll settle for canned food, but she really wants MY food! We're having some discussions about table manners.
