There's a Fungus Among Us
Feb. 24th, 2017 12:42 amWe keep finding more patches of mold at work. It's really depressing as well as gross. I checked circulation stats, and the moldy books have not circulated, so it's not that people put water-damaged books back. It's something environmental, which is not the answer that we want to hear. I honestly don't know how we're going to handle this when we don't know why it's happening. Are we going to have to inspect all the books on a regular basis? The answer is probably yes. Sigh.
My boss called me over to see a particularly bad section with mold, and I helped to clean it up as well as touched the moldy books to withdraw them from our catalog. My hands started iching like crazy, which I'm willing to admit might be psychosomatic. I don't gross out easily, but this is getting to me.
Possibly related: I was pricing a trip to Hawaii last night. The Caribbean is cheaper, unfortunately. But Hawaii is a very restorative place, and I could sure use it, but I don't have the money. There's an old hotel on Maui which Westin renovated. They did a good job and kept the flavor of the place, even though they upgraded it. The interior looks different. But there's an outdoor seating area in their restaurant that looks exactly the same from when I had been there a very long time ago. I was in tears looking at it. (They used to allow dogs to roam around there, which they probably don't do now. Dogs used to be able to do pretty much whatever they wanted to do in Hawaii.)
At least it's my weekend. (I wished my boss luck in working on inspecting the collection tomorrow.) The person who wanted the cat bed resurfaced, and I'm going to run it over to her tomorrow. And I also am meeting a person who wants the pet carrier. Otherwise, I'll do stuff around here.
