The most important thing about the tire is to be sure it is aired up before you get on the highway so it won't get too hot. A hole small enough to leak as slowly as it must be from what you say is probably not large enough to cause the tire to come apart on its own. Your problem would be the heat generated from being low on air at high speed - as the sidewalls flex they get hot. When a tire heats up the belts can separate and come apart. This would happen to any tire that was low for any reason.

Gawd... I'd not make a good tech writer, would I? Simple version - low tire pressure bad, correct tire pressure even with a pinhole okay...
