Santo Domingo

Oh, forgot to mention that I've been looking at places to retire overseas. The New York Times just ran a "36 hours in Santo Domingo" (Dominican Republic) piece, which piqued my interest. I did some research, and it's supposed to be a fairly cosmopolitan city with a decent cost of living. Pretty too. And it's fairly close to the US if I want to visit. So that's on my list of places to check out. It would cost around $1000 to go there for a week (not counting food). The flight is a little grueling because you have to change planes from Chicago, and there often is a long wait. Most flights connect through New York, which surprised me. I would have thought Miami.
