This morning, the contractor came by to walk through my unit and tell me what I need to move before the work starts on 3/11. The good news is that I don't need to board Random after all. I can just shut him in my bedroom, which will put him into feline nirvana. I need to find a way though to keep him from peeing on my bed if he gets over-excited (which has caused me to currently ban him from my bedroom). If I put a vinyl drop cloth over the bed, is there any possibility that he could get smothered in it? If not, that's what I'll do.

The other good news is that I don't have to get the patio furniture off of the deck right now. I have until June. I might just replace the cushions and then sell it before then.

The bad news is that I have to get everything out of my garage. Everything. By March 11th. During my break, I managed to clear one of the long walls, but I have stuff against the other long wall and the short wall. I need to rent a storage space and start hauling. I'll try to get rid of as many boxes as possible, but it makes sense to first move the stuff that I know that I want to keep.

Today was a fun day despite the lack of sleep. I got to sit in on one of those design meetings in which a bunch of people toss around a bunch of design issues and possibilities. (I didn't know enough to contribute anything, but it was fun.) Also had one of those fun types of system problems in which several people get involved and other people wander in to find out what the commotion is about. As of nine business days (including my start date), I have access to all the tools (tech writing and product) with which I'll need to work. I just need to check my remote access from home, and I'm good to go.

I have another doctor's appointment tomorrow.

There should't be any danger of that, especially if you fasten the ends to the bed posts/legs. Or you can get out an old blanket that you don't care about and put it over the drop cloth. If he pees on it, only the old blanket'll be affected, and the drop cloth will be safe both for him and from him.
Also, he'll be able to sleep on it very comfily (not that cats ever have a problem doing this)

I've left my cat for a week several times, and I did like Zhannie suggested - used plastic under an old spread. Of course she didn't pee on it since I took precautions ;)
