And now, a family of four

I adopted my third (and final!!) cat today.
I went to the shelter from which I adopted Harlee to see a cat called Peanut Butter. However, Peanut Butter didn't seem energetic enough for Harlee. I asked for recommendations of other cats, and wound up adopting a cat named Nima. There's no picture of her, but she's a brown tabby who looks remarkably like my cat who died last year, Chaos, except with big, round eyes and white paws. (Yes, I was trying to avoid getting a cat who looked like Chaos, but she seemed to be the right cat otherwise. I think that I can remember that she's a different cat than Chaos.) She's Harlee's age and likes other cats. In fact, she was one of the cats owned by the lady in Morgan Hill who had 200 cats. (No, I'm not making that up. And to those who were insisting that I was turning into one of those women with a million cats, I am merely an amateur :-P ) I think that she'll enjoy being a part of a smaller group. She was a little hesitant about me at first, but after the woman at the shelter started petting her, I started petting her, and we became friends fast -;) She seems calmer than Harlee.
She's settled in Harlee's old room (a.k.a my home office). I was amazed that she started exploring as soon as I opened the cat carrier, and even ate a little. However, she's decided that she's scared of me (and I can hardly blame her), so she's hiding from me. Thank goodness, she isn't hiding under the couch! I'd put her at the point where Harlee was after the gates had been up for a little while (after I had her about 5 weeks). I'm hopeful that she'll acclimate more quickly than Harlee. In fact, I'm wondering how soon I should put up the gates and start her getting used to the household. Harlee and Random (especially Harlee) are very curious about her.

Date: 2002-07-06 09:46 am (UTC)I've had the kids around Twit as much as possible, and while she still hisses when they get too close, they all seem to respect each other's presense without giving up curiosity. And none of them, including Twit, seem to take any of it personally (she doesn't hiss at me when I pet her when they're around ;)It can only get better. Or so I tell myself ;)
Meredith has also had them around Littleone, and the same general thing seems to be going on. No big disasters.

Date: 2002-07-06 03:17 pm (UTC)Random knows that she's there and has started hissing at the door. I was giving him shit about how tough he is -- NOT! Harlee walks all over him. The gates worked well with Random as well as Harlee, so that's the way that I'm going to introduce them.
