The lost dog

days_unfoldingLest the previous entry seem too saccharine, there is the story about the dog. One night when I was driving home from work about 1 AM, a dog was standing near the median of the road. I swerved to avoid him, shaking a little, and debated whether to call the police about him when I got home. Because it was really late, and I had to be at a 10:00 meeting, I didn't call.
Another night when I left work late, I saw him sitting by the side of the road in semi-darkness, looking like a statue. Again, because it was really late, and because I didn't think that they would do anything at that hour, I didn't call. I looked for him during the day, but I never saw him during the day or early evening.
Then someone put up a sign about a lost dog near work. The dog in the sign didn't look much like the dog that I saw (but how many lost dogs could there be in the area?) I didn't call.
One other late night, I saw him running along the side of the road, wagging his tail. I was amazed that he could seem so happy when he must be really frightened.
I haven't seen him since. I have no idea what happened to him. I keep looking for him.
