Greetings from Columbus
Nov. 14th, 2001 09:26 pmI just fell asleep on the couch, so I gather that I should go to sleep soon. I don't know if I'll catch up on my friends' list--sorry.
Yes, we're in Columbus. We arrived yesterday evening, to find that the hotel was very far from the downtown area, and it also didn't have a convenient phone jack or data port with which to log on. (The only phone jack was behind the bedside table.) So we made reservations to switch to a different hotel today.
We first started out in Worthington Square, a historic district in a suburb of Columbus. It reminds me so much of Connecticut that I'd almost believe that it was Connecticut.

As it turns out, the founders of the town were from New England originally.
The historic district contains a bunch of shops and restaurants in old houses. We had lunch in a coffeeshop that was packed with locals.
After Worthington, we drove down to the German Village area, which is a historic area with a lot of brick buildings. We spent a lot of time in The Book Loft, an independent bookstore with 32 rooms of books. The rooms twist and warp through three floors. If Alice in Wonderland contained a bookstore, this one would be it.
Then we checked into our hotel. Much better, although the room wasn't ready for quite a while after we checked in. (They wound up giving us a discount on the bill.)
Had dinner in a trendy Italian restaurant, walked around downtown for a while, and decided that we were both exhausted and went back to the hotel. We're leading a dangerous life-;)
