Easy as falling off a bicycle
Jun. 9th, 2002 03:34 amThey lied. You can forget how to ride a bicycle. At least I seem to have managed it. I brought out the bicycle and tried to ride it, and discovered that I couldn't get going. I didn't know how to get my foot off the ground without falling over. My balance was way off.
Later, I watched some kids riding their bikes around a parking lot, and got a better idea of how to launch myself. I also spent some time sitting on the bike in my living room with one hand resting on a box for balance, and slowly moving the pedals. I'm feeling a little more confident than I did earlier.
I think that part of the problem is that I did most of my riding when I literally was a kid, and my center of gravity has changed substantially since then.
