In the dark
Aug. 14th, 2003 11:57 pmI heard about the power failure in New York when I walked by a hallway monitor showing CNN. I went on Yahoo to find out more, and found out the vast scope of the blackout, and that it included Detroit, which is where my mom lives.
The thing is that she was flying from England to Detroit via Chicago today. At first, I didn't know what time her flight came in. I was wondering if she could be stuck in Chicago. (At least Chicago is the best place for any of us to get stuck. We have connections there.) I tried calling her at home and got no answer, but I didn't have her cell phone number.
During dinner, I went home and looked at her itinerary. She landed during the morning, long before the outage. So she's somewhere in Detroit in the dark. I tried calling her at home and on her cell phone, and got no answer (but it was late). I'm a little worried, but know intellectually that's she's probably okay.
And that's all I know. This is kind of a non-entry, but it made me feel better.
As long as I'm typing, the local Honda dealer gave me a high quote, so I requested quotes from a few more dealers in the area. One (in Sunnyvale) quoted the exact price that I wanted to pay and has cars in stock in the colors that I want to see. I have an appointment for a test drive on Saturday.
Addendum: CNN says that it might take through the weekend to restore full power in Michigan. I'll try not to worry if I can't reach my mom this weekend.
