Well, I had my last swimming lesson on Monday. Now I just need to swim regularly without the threat of the lesson hanging over my head.

So I guess that I needed a new project. (I'm unhappy without some project going on -;)) I just joined Weight Watchers Online. In their system, every food has a "points" value. Their online system provides a way to find out the points value of different foods and to track the points that you've used each day. It's more difficult than it sounds. At first, I was hungry all the time. (Two of my medications increase appetite and decrease metabolism, which probably isn't helping any.) One day, I found myself exercising only so that I could eat more food. Now I think that I'm starting to get the system. I was wondering why the system assigned points to food rather than counted calories, but the system really is a token economy that encourages exercise, eating low-fat foods, and eating vegetables. I already do the first two, but eating vegetables is a challenge given that I either eat out or eat frozen dinners. (However, I do eat a lot of salads.) I found that the store sells little 8-ounce cans of vegetables, so I'm going to use them to supplement my meals. I also found a breakfast that keeps me full a long time: a low-fat, low-carb protein drink and scrambled Egg Beaters with mushrooms added (only 4.5 points out of a daily total of 22).

I thought that the diet wasn't having much effect, but I just weighed myself, and I lost three pounds in four days. Holy shit. Now I'm wondering if I'm losing weight too quickly.

I decided that I didn't want to attend meetings because I didn't want the commitment, but it would be a way to meet new people. I'll see. If I run into problems, I'll join a meetings group.

I'm also mulling over joining Toastmasters. (So much for not wanting another commitment -;)) I'm going to e-mail some groups next week to visit them the following week.
