Week of living dangerously
Apr. 9th, 2005 12:33 amI've decided to get a satellite dish to see what this new-fangled TV thing is. (No, I can't receive local channels and don't have cable. All I do with the TV is watch rented movies.) I found a pretty good deal (on the Internet, of course) and hemmed and hawed because I shouldn't be spending the money (probably true) and the living room is in no shape for an installer to come in. But then I thought about the living room aspect some more, and what better way to force myself to make progress on the living room than to set a "dangerous" deadline (the installation). I decided to go for it. And the deadline is working; I've gotten more done on the living room tonight than I have in weeks.
I've decided to mount the dish on a post that is sunk into a 16-inch flowerpot. My question is how should I pack the dirt around the pole to make sure that it's stable? Should I dampen the dirt and pack it down? (I'm not worried about the flowerpot tipping over; those things are heavy.) Thanks.
Addendum: Oops, I should've explained that I have to put the dish on my patio/balcony. Mounting it on the building isn't an option; the HOA would come after me with a mallet. I can't sink the post into the ground because I'm upstairs.
