Incense and peppermints
May. 13th, 2006 04:58 pmLast Friday, I was exasperated at someone at work. After I left, I realized that while I was mad about a legitimate issue, my ego involvement in the situation wasn't helping. So this week, whenever someone's annoyed me, I've been trying to think of a time when I did something similar to whatever was annoying me. Sobering exercise, that. However, the thing that initially set me off is still setting me off; the company for which I work is dragging their collective heels on (partially) reimbursing me for the move. I ran out of money and had to borrow some. More importantly, though, I've been busting my butt trying to make this move work, so I feel that they should put in some extra effort into reimbursing me quickly. They claim that I'll have the check on Monday, but I'll believe it when I see it.
Friday night, I found myself buying scented votive and small pillar candles, and incense, and lighting them at home. It was the perfect way to end the week and transition into being at home. The scent also calmed me down. I plan to make a regular Friday ritual of lighting them.
However, I didn't do so last night. I was browsing home organization books at Barnes and Noble. I got some good ideas, but also found that I didn't want to buy the books. I went over to Target to find stackable cubes for the bathroom, and also walked out with over-the-toilet shelves and a few other things. (I'm continually amazed by Target.)
I'm really appreciating the chance to choose my rituals, and to go through my stuff, pare it down to what I really need and organize it. To paraphrase Thoreau's Walden, I came to Fresno to live deliberately.
Today I'm resting at home: unpacking and building the cubes, etc. Hmm, that doesn't sound very restful, but any day that I don't drive to San Jose is a "rest" day. I just unpacked my bag that contained my most commonly played CDs, so I'm thrilled.
I'm probably going to San Jose tomorrow for the day and late next week for a couple of days. The morning after I came back from San Jose last week, my appraiser called and said that they needed to take pictures in the condo. (Why now, three weeks after the initial appraisal, I don't know.) So I had planned to go up on Sunday and stay through Tuesday, but the appraiser is out of town at a funeral, so we'll make plans later in the week. Scheduling is getting more complex because there are some meetings at work that I need to go to (either in Fresno or San Jose). I also need to have a fasting blood test done somewhere along the line.
I'm also trying to pace myself. Thursday, the day after I got back from San Jose, I was so tired that I was falling asleep at work, in the bathroom, and drifting into other lanes driving. I've been trying to catch up on my sleep since then.
