Jul. 10th, 2006 11:06 pmI'm home sick, and procrastinating finishing a manual for review. I should finish it to stick with the schedule, but all I feel like doing is sleeping. Maybe I'll start it and see how it goes.
The news of late: my loan to fix up the condo fell through, which is very bad news. The linoleum in the bathrooms curls up slightly by the bathtubs. The loan officer at Countrywide asked that I have someone inspect for water damage (although the appraiser said that water damage was unlikely), so I found someone from ServiceMaster online. He inspected and found no damage, and sent me a report which I faxed to the loan officer. The report was rather informal, so they asked for one on letterhead stationery and signed by him, which he sent. They also asked for a copy of his business license, and that proved to be a problem. He said that they had recently moved and the license was in a box, and kept on saying that they'd have it in a couple of days. (I think that he was lying and doesn't have one.) Countrywide canceled the loan because they didn't get a copy of the business license. This was after taking three months to process the loan.
So money is very, very tight. I'm going to try to get a personal loan for the home improvements rather than hassle with refinancing. We'll see how that goes.
At least now I have a decent setup to stay in the condo in San Jose (instead of staying in a hotel). Friday night, when I was on my way to San Jose, I started feeling sick, and by Saturday, I didn't think that I would make it back that night. So I bought an air mattress to sleep on in the condo. I slept for 11 hours. I think part of the reason that I slept so long was because I wasn't feeling well, but still, the air mattress was comfortable enough. I wish that I had got one a while ago instead of staying in a hotel, even at a discount.
The air mattress rolled like a water bed, which took some getting used to. I was amusing myself by wondering what would happen if a couple tried to have sex on the air mattress. Would it leak air under the weight? Roll and dump the hapless couple out of bed? I would say that it requires more research, but maybe not right now -;)
I did make it home on Sunday night, although I was delayed by a detour around a nasty accident on Hwy. 152. For once, I was worried about the people in the accident rather than fuming about the delay. I've been listening to audio books on the drive back and forth to San Jose, which helps. Right now, I've been listening to Eat, Pray, Love, which I've really been enjoying.
Monday morning, I was pulling myself together for work even though I wasn't feeling well, and was really resenting it. I finally called in sick and my boss was gracious enough.
My mom is coming in (to Fresno) on Friday and staying for the weekend. I want to take Friday off to pick her up at the airport (which suggests that I should get my work done tonight).
