Guilt

I knew that getting the cats into the carriers and getting them to the kennel would be the toughest part of the move. That was an understatement.

The trouble started yesterday when I discovered that the the kennel's form stated that the cats should have had vaccinations within six months rather than a year. I found a vet that had a walk-in vaccination clinic, and I planned to take them today on the way to the kennel.

First, the pet sitter and I needed to get the cats into the carrier. Random and Nima were easy. (I have to say that I was wondering how well the pet sitter would manage the cats given that he had only one hand, but he was good with them.) Then there was dear, sweet Harlee. She hid under the couch. We got her out. She went under the couch again. We got her out. She then hid inside one of the arms of the couch. We tipped the couch on its side to get her out. She climbed up the back of the couch to sit on top of the couch given that it was on its side. At that point, Harlee was more upset than I had ever seen her be, and I suggested that maybe we should let her calm down and try again tomorrow. However, the pet sitter backed her into a corner; we put the carrier in front of her; he prodded her with a stick until she went into the carrier. Whew.

Then I went to the walk-in vaccination clinic. I thought that they would move us through rather quickly, but it took over two hours until they did the vaccinations. It was too late to go to the kennel.

So that left me with a dilemma--what to do with the cats? I decided (here comes the guilt part) that the only thing that I could do was to keep them in their carriers overnight because I didn't know if I could get them back in their carriers tomorrow.

Harlee and Nima seem relatively calm (or at least quiet). Random keeps growling at all of us.

The kennel opens at 7:30. I doubt I'll make it quite that early, but I owe it to them to get there as early as I possibly can.
