Paint-a-thon
May. 21st, 2008 12:43 amMom spent the last week with me painting my condo.
When she arrived, the keyless entry for my car stopped working. It beeped like the car was locked when it didn't lock. I'm glad that I caught that. Luckily the key works (how low-tech).
I had a phone interview on Wednesday. The interviewer scheduled a face-to-face interview on Friday (it figures). So Friday I went off to my interview, and Mom was stopped on painting because she needed my help in moving the digital piano. I had a good interview with a program manager, but my main contact said that she already had enough info from the phone interview, so I showed her some illustrations that I did and left.
The upshot is that Mom and I painted the living room/dining room. There's a lot of furniture and other stuff, so we had to move the furniture and stuff into one side of the room and paint, and so on. We also did a primer coat plus a top coat. I also haven't painted much, so I had to be told what to do. The whole process was frustrating for Mom. However, the living room looks fabulous, especially from the patio at night. It's amazing how a fresh coat of paint can pull a place together.
Of course, there was a heat wave while we were painting. Mom told me that I had to get the air conditioning fixed, so I called someone. I found out that I didn't have heat all winter (I thought that I heard the heat go on sometimes) as well as no air conditioning last summer. Pioneer woman! I have to admit that it was easier to paint when the place was cooler.
The kitties were very stressed out (of course). Harlee was pretty good about keeping out of the way, but Nima managed to get paint on one of her whiskers.
Mom said that I should hire someone to paint the kitchen and my bedroom because there are spots where a painter would have to lean way out from the ladder to reach them. (Or maybe there's another way to reach the spots, but we don't know what it is.) Mom said that she'd come back and help me paint the office, hall, and guest bathroom.
She left today. I had a good time hanging out with her in the airport. We were people-watching and dissing the vending machines. The kitties and I crashed out cold this afternoon.
Tomorrow I need to call the rental place to pick up the ladder. Then I need to start calling painters. I'm debating whether to call the handyman who installed my bathroom floor. At the time, he suggested that he and his colleague paint the place. However, I wouldn't be dealing with a painting company.
