I'm being my usual contrarian self. I saw the last Harry Potter movie last night, and thought that it was okay, not great, but it’s been getting great reviews. I have to admit that I’ve read the books so many times that I practically have them memorized, which leads me to be critical of the movies. But I loved the previous movie (Deathly Hallows Part 1), which a lot of reviewers disliked. I found myself very detached from the characters in this movie, although I did shed a tear at the most poignant part. I thought that all the CGI turned it into a spectacle, rather than a story.


I did find one reviewer who had a similar viewpoint, Andrew O'Hehir at Salon.com. A couple of excerpts from his review that I agreed with:
