San Jose Public Library job
May. 21st, 2012 10:25 pmIt figures. The San Jose Public Library is hiring an entry-level cataloger. In general, I've been avoiding California jobs because of the cost of living, but I have to admit that I miss San Jose. Should I apply? OTOH, San Jose State University has a library school and is right there, so they're more likely to hire someone from SJSU than someone who has to move back across the country.
I've been looking at freelance jobs posted to job boards online (freelance.com and elance.com). I need to come up with a portfolio. Writing samples are easy, but research samples require some thought.
I'm mulling over possibly finding an apartment in the fall. If I lived in Wayne County and went to school at least half-time (which I will in the fall), I could get health insurance for slightly under $100 a month. I think that I'm paying Blue Cross/Blue Shield close to $400 a month (I think? I try to block it out of my consciousness). The tradeoff is that I could use only four hospitals or clinics, but that's okay. So that's $300 saved. I'm playing $200 a month for my storage space, so that's $500 towards an apartment. I think that I might be still paying collision/comprehensive on my car as well as liability, and the car is 9 years old, so I might be able to save some money there too. Cheaper apartments in Taylor are around $600-$700, and I've seen some for slightly under $600. Food for thought....
