ALA Annual Conference
May. 24th, 2012 03:47 amI've been investigating whether I can attend the American Library Association's Annual Conference (known as "ALA Annual" to the library crowd) in Anaheim near the end of June ever since I found out that I won't be working that weekend. I e-mailed the other Library Assistant at my job to see if he could cover for me for two days, so that's the first step.
I couldn't resist looking into flights and hotels though. I found that Extended Stay America at the Anaheim Convention Center has rooms, which would rock because I could save on meals. (Apparently the hotel isn't on the list of official hotels for the conference. Why? Works for me though.) If I flew to LAX, the package for hotel plus flight would be $834, but I'd have to figure out how to get to Anaheim from the airport. The package of hotel plus flight to Orange County airport would be $915, but I'd be much closer to Anaheim. Student conference registration would be $120. So it would be around $1000 plus meals.
I wouldn't go to Disneyland because I'm trying to keep costs down (plus I just was at Disney World last December). There is an excursion to the Santa Monica Pier that I'd really like to do, but it's on the day that I'm leaving, so I'm not sure if that would work or not.
I've printed out the preliminary schedule to see if there's enough sessions that interest me to make it worth going.
