We're in Chicago visiting the relatives. Part of growing up in Chicago is choosing affilations: Cubs or White Socks, North or South Side (I'm actually from the North Shore, the suburbs), Chicago Tribune or Chicago Sun Times (newspaper). Yesterday, I was looking for the Chicago Tribune, and I found myself asking for the "Chicago Trib," which is what a real Chicagoan would say. I guess that you can take the girl out of the city, but not the city out of the girl. I settled for the Sun Times.

We're staying in Rosemont, which is near the airport. Very near the airport. One of the main runways is a couple of blocks away. Yesterday, when I was running errands, I was watching the planes that were about to land, with their landing gear down, skimming the buildings. I proved that we're not from Rosemont because I stopped and watched the planes each time that one came by. I remember going to O'Hare way back when to watch the planes, back when you could still do that.

Oddly enough, I applied for a job in Chicago yesterday. We'll see what happens.

My mom and I crossed wires last night, so we both bought some groceries. (We're at a hotel with a small kitchen.) We both bought ice cream, so I guess that I'll have ice cream as part of my breakfast. My mom is picking me up at 4, and we'll go to my aunt's and uncle's house, and then my dad is taking me out for dinner. There was a choice there too. I wanted Chinese food, and my dad asked me what kind, "Cantonese, Szechuan, Peking, Hunan"? I said, "Um, not very spicy?" He informed me that I wanted Cantonese because the other ones were spicy. They might take away my Bay Area affiliations for that.
