I didn't get chosen for an on-site interview at the college in Illinois. The position coordinator sent a very nice, apologetic note that said that they thought that any of the candidates in the phone interview would do an "admirable" job, but they had to winnow the number of candidates down, so they went with candidates that had more experience. He said that they were sorry "to disappoint good people". Bummer, because I really liked those people, but that's the way that it goes. I still have the phone interview with the university in Baltimore at the middle of the month.

The other Library Assistant at my work found a full-time job, so I'll need to cover his hours as well as mine starting the week after this coming week. He got a job at another branch of the for-profit school at which I worked. I probably could have gotten that job, but I decided not to apply for various reasons: I didn't want to take a job and promptly leave it for a job that I really want, and I'm not happy with the way that the company treats its librarians. The latest case was on Saturday, when I was supposed to open the library at 8 AM, but there was no one to let me in the building until 8:15 AM. Okay, problems happen, but previously they've changed the hours that the building would be open and didn't tell us. Sometimes they don't open the front door even if they're there, and I hurt my hands knocking, knocking, knocking. However, they want to leave exactly by 2 (if not sooner), when the library closes, and don't even give me time to use the washroom after work. Apparently it's different when they have to stand around. In the past (and probably in the future), they have us call students who have dropped out to try to get them to come back. (Most of those students aren't happy with being called.) Etc. The library at the other school also has had a lot of turnover. I hope that I made the right decision. Only time will tell....

The pond saga continues. Our landscaper set up an appointment with an electrician to fix the electricity to the pond and gazebo, but he never showed up. Apparently he came when I was at work the following day or before I got up on Thursday, and the pump and waterfall worked for a whole day. Then they stopped working. I thought that they hadn't re-set the timer for the pump/waterfall, and called the landscaper, but he said that he re-set it (and it's showing the correct time). So who knows what's wrong with it. The landscaper said that he was going to stop by and have a look at it, but he never showed up. Right now, I'm plugging it into an outlet without the timer because mosquitoes were breeding in the pond. I'll be very glad to hand the yard problems off to my mom, who gets home on Tuesday.

I've been (mostly) following a low-carb diet lately. It was tough to find low-carb foods at my local grocery store, but Trader Joe's had a lot of stuff that works. I've been eating lots of protein and veggies (with the occasional cookie -;)). In general, I've been less hungry than usual. For some reason fish, which I usually like, has been turning me off. However, last night, I had a tomato-basil veggie burger, which was surprisingly good. We'll see how this goes....

I wish that I knew when NBC is going to broadcast the gymnastics and diving tonight. Yesterday, I was wiped out after work, and wound up watching a few hours of the Olympics, which was fun. However, I have lots of stuff to do, including studying. I do need to do some cleaning before my mom gets back, though, so I'll turn on the Olympics and go clean during the parts that I'm not interested in.
