Zara is in fine fettle this morning--jumping on boxes and looking out the windows. (I had the blinds in one window open for her, so of course, she wanted to look out the other one.) I think that it's safe to say that she wasn't injured in the accident.

Harlee is refusing to leave the closet, although I noticed that she ate all her food.

I intended to take a nap last night, but instead slept for 12 hours.

The apartment management company lied to me, however. I asked them if they would take care of snow removal, and they said, "Yes." Neither the parking lot nor the stairs up to the townhouses have been cleared. I guess that I'll clear the stairs later.

I think that I'm going to call this place Topsy-Turvy House. First, the upstairs is colder than the downstairs. (Part of the problem was, though, that there are heat vents in the floor as well as in the wall, and the one in the office had been covered by a box. The one in the floor of the bedroom probably is covered by a box.) Also, the kitchen is the warmest room in the house, and it has a big sliding glass door to the deck that you would think would leak lots of energy. Not complaining--it'll be nice to stumble downstairs into a warm kitchen on a cold winter's morning. I've got the orchids there now recovering from their ordeal. (One of them has flowers that are wilting. I guess that there aren't a lot of ways to register a protest if you're an orchid! And I snapped off a stem on which flowers were growing when I was moving them, but it will grow another stem eventually. I need to water the orchids and bring them upstairs.) And finally, my washer has only one temperature for washes, and that temperature is cold. Still, I'm lucky to have a washer and dryer to use.

Zara is as happy as can be, although she is talking to me with her little squeaky voice a lot more than normal. ("Mom, I like this place--and don't EVER do that again!") Harlee is refusing to leave the closet, which is concerning me. Maybe it's a delayed reaction to the events of the past two days. Or maybe she doesn't like the fact that I have the gate up in the office; she hates being restrained in any manner, even more than most cats, so she might be freaking out over that. However, I really don't want to let her out until the Comcast person and the guys from Home Depot delivering my freezer come on Saturday.

Speaking of the Comcast guy, I have my work cut out for me clearing a path for him to get into my living room by Saturday. Right now, it looks like a warehouse. The days off will really help, although I have homework to finish first. However, I need to run out and get some milk and some other stuff, and I don't know if this is a reaction to the accident, but I don't really want to drive at night. (I better get over that quickly though because I will be leaving work at night.) I also want to get a disposable litter pan and bag some food as a "bug-out" bag for the cats, so I won't ever be in the same position as I was last night. (At least I now know that they can manage staying in a hotel room, which they might have to do if I eventually move far away. Not any time soon though, I sincerely hope. I hate moving....) I also want to see if I can buy a fireplace screen locally instead of having one shipped from Amazon.com, so I can have the fireplace blocked off when I do give Harlee the run of the house.

I also noticed that Harlee and Zara did manage to get along in the hotel room, although the events of that night seemed to knock the chip off of Zara's shoulder. I'm investigating local vets, and one of them does behavioral counseling, which might help.
